Hi Liam
Some nice shots - the top one is my fave... Are you using ND grads?
I had a really good day out taking pics in London yesterday, the light was lovely nearly all day apart from a couple of hours of grey cloud in the afternoon - my aching feet are evidence enough that I was out shooting from 7am to nearly 7pm...!

Hi Will,
no filters.. I just exposed for the shade of gold/orange etc, for each shot and let the rest take it's mark from that.
I've put the top one up in ephotozine.. my first one so far. I might have a way to go though, after seeing some people's submissions.
12 hours in London.. you are dedicated.. I'm about 25 miles from London, and I think the last time I went there was 3 years ago, and that was just getting off the Eurostar and getting the local train home.
I might even go again next year.
Where abouts were you in London? Obviously photographic evidence is mandatory..
Cheers

Hi Liam,
Only reason I asked about the grads is that you've done a really nice job of balancing the exposure apart from the sun burning out in the top one...
I live quite a way out of London, Henlow which is just off the A1 north of Stevenage but head down there a few times each year. Checked the weather forecast which looked good and headed off around 6 yesterday morning - at that time on a Sunday it's only an hour to the City for me. Found a lovely free parking spot just by London Bridge station! I was going to go home after the morning session but with free parking all day and great light it seemed silly to miss the opportunity
Most of the stuff I did at dawn/dusk was on the big Panoramic and my 645 so will have to wait a week for them to come back but in the middle of the day I had a really good wander round with the K10D - as soon as I find my SD card reader this eve I'll post some of the results. In the meantime, have a look here - http://www.pbase.com/diffractionphotography/london
If you're close we ought to arrange a Pentax day out??? Maybe George and some of the other Southerners could join us too?

Hi Will,
To be honest, by the time the second and third ones were taken, the light was failing, so there wasn't as much latitude between the bright and dark areas, as with the first.
As for getting together, I'm up for that. How about getting a few southerners together, finding an equidistant(ish) point, and all turn up there with camera gear in tow. It could be a place with lots of architectural beauty, or a quaint village scene.. or it could be a disused quarry in the middle of nowhere.. a challenge say.
Of course there will be one building nearby.. a pub that does food, and as long as we don't go near the cars for a couple of hours afterwards, maybe a sweet sherry.
I'll start a thread in General chat.
Cheers
Liam

The good thing about taking 200 photos of the same thing.. I get to see the ones that didn't work, you don't.. Only reason I asked about the grads is that you've done a really nice job of balancing the exposure apart from the sun burning out in the top one...

the sunsets on the south coast at the moment are stunning. It's a 2 1/2 hour round trip for me, but it seems to be worth it. I shot 200 odd photos yesterday, and instead of having the usual 2 or 3 worth keeping, I could probably use about 3 or 4 dozen, so that's a good day.
Anyway, here are three of them. All shot in RAW, and basically exported from SilkyPix as is. A little bit of fettling in GIMP, and job done.

If you're waking up to the usual British weather (or indeed 10ft of snow in Canada) then I hope these cheer you up as you step out into it this morning.
Brought to you by Benson and Hedges and insomnia.
