the Zeiss Flek makes a nice wandering around standard lens does it not? I have one which I haven't used for a while, might have to break it out.

Yes it is. I think is one if the best M42 35mm lens ever made ( not considering this one http://www.zeiss.com/c12567a8003b58b9/Contents-Frame/f059b023d3f70687c12571ec005... - the ZS version ).
