Summer Approaches

Nice idea and shot but with a dead sky and the green being overall rather thin it falls between being whispy and dreamy and having 'presence' for me. Also at this size the details are not rendered crisply enough which I suspect isn't a problem in the original.

I'm not quite sure what to make of that feedback Mike - falling between whispy and dreamy and also having a dead sky; what do you actually mean by this?
I have to say though, to me the shot does have enough detail, even when viewed this size. That certainly was'nt a comment I was expecting.

The dead sky is just that there is no colour or texture at all in it.
The overall lightness of the image could make it a dreamy image as it is quite a delicate treatment as well but it doesn't go that way for me anyway.
So if it's not dreamy then it lacks punch and something to latch onto.
Oh all right I'll say it - the detail doesn't look sharp. I was trying not to say that but at this size it doesn't look crisp and sharp.
I meant no offence and I guess it's early in the morning and my bluntness filter hasn't kicked in yet so you got the blunt version - beg pardon.

Mike - you haven't offended! I just wanted to get a better idea of where you were coming from.
For me, your second explanation makes more sense. I'll play around with the RAW file a bit later, and see what I come up with.

I quite like this Bob. I'm with Mike on the sky though, that's not great. The sharpness seems okay to me, but hard to tell much at this small size. I can see Mike's point about the punch too. The greens are all quite pale, which is fine, but it does give it a low apparent contrast which results in less impact for me. A subject would also help I think - a supermodel leaning against one of the trees wouldn't go amiss
I do like the composition! Great lines of trees and I like the wildflower carpet. It's the sort of shot I like taking (and Mike then points out all the flaws I've missed :mrgreen

There does seem to be an overall green cast even in the daisies and the tree trunks which I suppose isn't surprising but I wonder if you could ease that out? It's definitely punchier now without being OTT.

The second one has more impact, but I agree with mikew comment.

I think somewhere between the two images could work?

I wonder if a monochrome conversion would work?
Best wishes,
