Strange Apparition??

I took this pic in my backyard last night with my son in laws Casio P&S. Which he kindly gave me as he no longer used it
I can't work out what the strange ghostly apparition is at the top :
I used the flash and the other shots came out fine

It's a reflection of your flash from a dust particle. It's a particular problem with P&S cameras due to the small distance between the flash unit and the lens which causes light to come back at a small angle off the dust particles. Quite a few people thought they had discovered "angels" or "ghosts" or "orbs" some other ethereal beings, and there is quite an Internet sub-culture in mis-attributing these phenomenons. To prove it is dust, shake some talc in a room and take another photo.
