Spent today at Elvington aerodrome watching the Straight Line Speed Event.

This is a bike event for street legal bikes capable of speeds in excess of 200 mph. Fastest Speed of the day was 233mph

The aim is to go as fast as you can in a straight line over 1km

Riders were also competing in the Wheelie Championships - where they have to pull a wheelie for a measured 1km - again this is a speed event and the top riders manage well over 160mph

First time I have attended an event like this - here are a few images - as always c+c welcome

Nice shots. Are the bikes straight from the show room doing 200 plus or are they modified? Is that a bottle of Nitrous Oxide strapped to the side of #3 for instance?

Hi Barrie

I doubt whether any of them are totally stock. However, some are just race tuned whilst others - like the one you mention - are on steroids

That last bike is a gas turbine with an engine out of a helicopter - and street legal!! It was also virtually the slowest bike on the course

A nice set of images Carl. No. 2 is my pick of the bunch as you really get a feel of the determination of the rider from his expression.

Nice shots, though 2-7 look like they could do with more contrast. What a bunch of nutters! The guy in #4 looks like the wind is lifting him off the bike. I like the look of the gas-turbine bike, even if it is slow!

Nice photos! Although the EXIF tags seem to be missing, would have been nice to check the settings in each photo (except for the last one).

#2 looked like he was wishing nothing would suddenly cross the road. LOL
