Hi Peter,
a good clean crisp shot. Good choice of nice neutral background but with the gaps in the slats adding to the overall without detracting from the main ingredients.. of the image.

Crackin' shot, just makes me want to start cooking, so real, so crisp....Oh, it's just making me want to get a 50mm all the more now, don't think I cant wait till birthday!
Can anyone confirm if the 1.4 50mm SMC AF will be as so damn sharp as the 1.7?

by reputation (I've not used one) it will be better. Only supposed disadvantage is the F1.7 has a flatter field and is therefore a better choice for macro.

The f1.4 has a different character to the f1.7. It is more contrasty and may well appear sharper, but may not have the same degree of resolution.
Overall though both lenses are as good as you could wish to get.

Nice image peter, but I would suggest cropping less tight, it seems too cramped on each side. Maybe it's the heavy border that's doing it.
