Mainline steam
Up in the high Pennines for more mainline steam train photography. First up: 'The Citadel' special from Manchester to Carlisle speeding over Dandry Mire Viaduct at Garsdale double headed by two Class 5s. Really shifting with the two Fives making easy work of the ten coach train on the long climb to Ais Gill Summit.... Then a couple of hours later Tornado on the same line photographed at Culgaith with the Border Raider express from Birmingham to Carlisle.
This is the line British Rail wanted to shut down in the 1980s but it was saved by public protest and the then Transport Minister Michael Portillo.

Lovely set David and so nice to see, that 70-200 is a superb lens.

Yes, I think I like the second image best, for the composition as much as anything else.

I was going to take some last Saturday but both (one was the Border Raider, in your lower image) were on electrified lines near me, so I'm waiting until the 27th to catch the Chester Venturer somewhere.
