Thanks a lot for your words. That is truly encouraging hearing from people as experienced as you and the lot here that I can achieve some improvement

I have got my eye on a hot chocolate cuppa that Pizza Express friends of mine make for me and I tried taking some macro shots just fooling around, and I found the very same problem. Couldn't focus on the areas that I wanted overall, but with this method I think I can pull one off .

I guess its time for a hot chocolate now , its just around the corner so off I go. They are always keen on seeing me using them as guinea pigs for my trials, including staff , so watch this space

I'm in North Harrow, close by St Alban's Church and though I may be long in the tooth I'm not sure there's much I could teach you about photography - I'm a long term dabbler rather than some of you real enthuisiasts here.

I'm impressed - they are fantastic! And I already have a serious time deficiency... I need a running screaming smiley now

What a coincidence. You are literally at a walking distance from where I am. So many times I take the Ridgeway road when I go running and go round Imperial way or George V avenue for a long steady run back towards Pinner .

And I use that road constantly driving when I go towards Sudbury Hill or Wembley.

I've thought about that too and intend doing some tests some time.

My current thoughts are that that if I keep the same magnification but move the camera to get a plane further away in focus then I will be unnaturally enlarging a far part of the object; but if I change the focus via the focus ring then a further away part of the object will appear smaller (ie with a lower magnification) and thus more natural.
