Stabilized, Not Ready?

Can anyone help? Looking at data in PhotoMe, a number of shots on my K5 show Image Stabilizer: Stabilized, Not Ready. What does this mean? Shutter Speeds are around 1/160 to 1/500 sec, and camera/lens supported on bean bag. Should add that shots are sharp, lens in use is 300mm FA*.

The SR system needs to acquire enough data to work out the "shake factor" to work effectively.
The Not Ready marker indicates that it's not got enough data yet. There's also a time value in the EXIF

When using SR you should half press, and wait for the hand icon in the VF before fully depressing the shutter.

As Matt has described, you pressed the shutter button too fast that the SR system hadn't had time to stabilize.

MattMatic and Mannesty, thanks for the quick replies. But the time shown since depressing the 1/2 shutter depress is about 4.5 secs, and the 'hand' is ON in the viewfinder.

I think you may need to do some specific testing to determine if there is some kind of problem.

Also, if the lens was supported on a bean bag, and therefore very still, you should have turned SR off as per the recommendation for tripod use. The Pentax SR system is designed to compensate for movement when the camera is hand held, not when it's supported in some way to limit possible movement.

To test, you'll need to take several shots whereby you can see that the green hand symbol in the viewfinder is on solid before taking the shot. Then look at those images in PhotoMe or another EXIF reader (PhotoMe has not been updated since 2009 although it's possible that camera/lens data has been updated since then).
