I have just bought an E-Bay Spotmatic 500, not exactly cutting edge but the price was kinda hard to resist, got a question for you. does the 500 have a light meter?

There should be a needle in the viewfinder - the meter is switched on with a black switch on the left side of the pentaprism - the needle is centred to indicate correct exposure. You will need a 1.35v mercury cell or equivalent and this is located in the baseplate of the camera. You might find that there is an extra click stop on the shutter dial beyond 1/500 sec, which will release the shutter at approximately 1/1000 second!
Best regards, John

If you get stuck, you can download the manual here
http://www.pentax.com/docstore/index.cfm?show=6

If you want something a bit better quality, I can email a copy of the Spotmatic manual (Same camera but 1/1000 top speed and a self timer)

Thanx a lot you guys! hopefuly the SP will come through the post soon and I can have a play. I have a manual for my MEsuper and was unsure if it was going to be similar or not. I will experiment with a few roles of XP2 and maybe show you the results.
