Spotmatic metering problem

Hello all,

I was after an SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4 and got one with a Spotmatic. Both came in an extremely good condition, so I am taking the opportunity to load a film and teach my daughters the basics in photography.

However, I have a slight problem with the meter which works the other way round. When the needle is on the + side (indicating overexposed) I need to reduce the shutter speed to lower it down! And vice versa, if the needle is on - side (underexposed) I need to increase it! Same thing happens if I use the aperture.

Any idea why?

I don't if it does make any difference, but is the battery the right way round?

It should be + towards the camera (ie opposite side to you when you check).

I bought a wonderful Spotmatic years ago from a seller who was having the same problem.
Flip the battery over.

I do not know if I laugh at myself or not... yes, you are all spotmatic right, just a flip and solved the problem... I love the camera and will put in a film and have a go with it.

Cheers friends

George, my Guru!

Back from a summer at the lake - kayaking and filming wildlife with my (and your) trusty SFX. Also got a lot of use out of Don's Super Program.

I've managed to log in once or twice to quickly scan messages - many new faces over the past two months! Welcome to all recent members.

Am bringing Daughter #2 along with K mount gear, Daughter #1 with a Pentax Point and Shoot, and Wife with a digital Optio 60. Pentax all the way.

Hope all goes well with you and yours out on the isle?

I'll raise a Bowmore to you this evening when we arrive at the lake for our Canadian Labour Day long weekend.

Cheers!

Mac,

Glad all is well, and you've been enjoying the lakes - and the SFX.

Summer on this side of the pond has given lots of people the opportunity to do a bit of boating and swimming - often in their own homes.

Strangely enough the island has escaped all that. So far.

Keep taking the medicine!
