Just a quick query.

Why does a blank avatar and the word Sponsor appear under some posts??

Bet there's a very simple explanation but I can't fathom it.

There's an advert there somewhere. Your browser may be blocking it if you don't see it.

Don't see these at all, use Firefox maybe thats why.

Ahh - that may explain it - I use Firefox with an ad-blocker.

Any other ideas??

Can anyone say how often the adverts of Sponsors are updated. Example:- Microglobe advert for Pentax 50mm F1.4 PFA @ £143. If you go to their website it's £207.90

The ads pay for the website that we all use free of charge.

I've always thought it a bit of bad form really to block them.

Unless we don't mind a subscription fee?...

The only Ad's you should see are on the righthand side of the page, I asume you are refering to these?this is normal.

Few people would block the ads if they weren't so voluminous and annoying.

The ads much more than pay for this forum. This forum if it was independent from ePhotozine could be run ad-free with small subscriptions or donations.

I know of an excellent much larger forum (non photography) than this with hundreds of posts per day that is run ad-free on a shoe-string budget.

I'm not sure if you're privy to how much revenue the ads generate, I certainly am not, but the point is that it is ePhotozine's business model, and that's how they choose to run it?

I just don't get why people are happy to use something free, paid for by ads in whole or part, but then complain that it's not how they would like because the ads annoy them.

It's one thing to block the ads, that's your choice of course, but it's another to come onto the site and boast about what you've done!!

It's obvious that it must be a lot more than £6 a month. That's all it costs to host a forum.

I just say this in case anyone thinks a forum has to be terribly expensive to run and therefore require lots of advertising.

Personally, I only block ads when they are particularly distracting with animated graphics, or if they slow down my browser.

The little ads between posts (not the ones on the right) only occur if you are looking at posts but aren't signed in.

I personally have no issue with the ads, I just ignore them (mostly) as for an ad free forum funded from subscription.....I thought some of us WERE part funding this forum by subscribing to Pentax User Magazine.

I'm sure if we were all given a choice over what form advertising should take we would choose this, much better than some w@nk£r ringing you up and trying to sell you a new kitchen when your halfway through a meal or something good on TV, lets complain about offensive advertising before we complain about the ads on here.
