Oooh! Can't stand spiders but can photogragh them outside as i have room to run! Great shot even though it made me shudder!

What an odd looking spider! Does it live on or around flowers that have a similar shape / colour scheme? I'm trying to work out if those spikes are camouflage or there to make it look even more intimidating than it already does...

Looks like the underside of a Christmas Spider. Were there big cream-coloured spots on the back?

Other names are christmas spider or Jewel spider, they live in shrubery and are said to be harmless to humans
