However, it is also fair to say that if we wish to express ourselves clearly then good spelling and good grammar will help enormously.
Lens has been the correct spelling in English for a very long times. lenses is the plural.
Again a caveat though. In 1850 "finished" was spelt "finisht" so correct spelling can change with time.

It seems the correct spelling to describe how to grip a
lens is with "foure fingers and a thumbe and turne againe"
otherwise it will make you "sicke" and you won't be able
to return home upon "horse-backe" With all the extra
"e"'s maybe lense is correct

Perhaps it is jealousy, perhaps I just recognize that some of those who own a 'lense' take better photos than I do with my orphographically correct lens.

Can not stand Z instead of S though

I have to keep reminding myself that PUF is a photography forum and not an English lesson.

PS: I'm not getting at the many members of PUF for whom English is not the first language, I have nothing but respect for the way they clearly express themselves.

LENS not LENSE for one
LENSES not any other variants for more than one.
I have no hope of change, but I think I must have seen one more 'lense' this morning than was good for me. Perhaps it is jealousy, perhaps I just recognize that some of those who own a 'lense' take better photos than I do with my orphographically correct lens.
