No its harmless. I had one crawling around on my neck when i inadvertently walked through its web. It was a little disconcerting

I have one living somewhere in my fireplace at the moment. Of course it's a harmless english one, but it's about the size of my thumb and my cat's frightened of it
By the way, Clarky, about the Sigma 10-20. If you are at all interested in landscapes I would really think about getting one. 30 years ago I aspired to a Pentax SMC 15mm f3.5 but could never, never have afforded one. Even lenses by Tamron or Sigma were out of my reach. I spend a lot of time in Wales with lots of big scenes to look at and a 28mm was the best I could afford. Imagine my disapointment when I "went digital" to find my best wide angle wasn't wide angle any more!
My father left me a pair of Leitz Trinovid binoculars 20 years ago, which I seldom used, and when I saw what they were fetching on eBay I searched my soul and decided to sell them. That's how I got the money for my 10-20 and I LOVE it. I hope Dad Knows how happy I am with what I have done!

I like the way the light's glowing through its legs. Nice shot, clean background and lots of detail.

I have one in my watch list on E-bay at the moment, new for 260quid and i have been sorely tempted to hit the buy-it-now button. But my lens expenditure over the last couple of months has been a little excessive, or so my wife says anyway but i'm not giving up yet I have one living somewhere in my fireplace at the moment. BTW i picked up a new Pentax D-FA 100mm macro on Monday for 250quid
a very good price considering they go for around 350 retail here.
But it will have to be a good performer before i put the Tamron out to pasture.
It was a price i couldn't turn down and could get my money back easily if i don't like it.
Dan, the bright sun did make it sort of glow

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the Tamron and the DFA back-to-back, I spent an age looking at pictures taken with both online and handling them in the shop (Nikon fit Tamron unfortunately) before plumping for the DFA, mainly for its light weight and the general ergonomics (I love quick shift!). Be nice to know if I made the right choice or not - although I'm unlikely to change now!
I've not had any spiders yet this year but I'm hoping to see some soon as the weather warms up a bit - this one of yours is a very handsome chap!

To be honest i am not expecting to see much of a difference between the two but i will let you know. My Tamron is the older version and only went down too 1.2 but it still gave excellent results.

If you can better the results you are getting from the Tamron I can't wait to see them. I don't think you will see a great difference, but you never know.

I doubt you'll see any difference in quality as all macros tend to be superb performers, however, the DFA will go down to 1:1 magnification so I'm looking forward to seeing bugs at twice the size you're getting from the Tamron!

I thought the Tamron was 1:1 as well.

Me too - mine is an older one, non digital, but it is 1:1.

The original (2.5, not 2.8 ) design went to 1:2 and Tamron sold an optional extension tube kit to take it to 1:1 if desired - I'm guessing this is the one Clarky's got from his description above.
