I wonder if I can solicit your help with the software update for this camera? The state of play so far is that I have a file on the computer - about 10.7 MB - but have not understood the instructions and I think the file I have may still be in zipped form. The current camera software is 1.0 and does not seem to be that clever. I do not know how to instruct the camera to recognize a download on the SD card - there are now 2 files on there both 10.7 MB. Can I load it to the camera? No sirree. What are the instructions spelt out for a technophobe so I know what to do at every stage? There is no prompt for updates and I do not know where to look for one! Is there someone out there who can help? I await your response with baited breath!

The only thing you want on the SD card is the .bin file - try unzipping on your computer and then drag and drop the file to the card.

When you've downloaded the update file - K50_v110.zip - from Pentax to your computer, I'd suggest you put it in a newly created folder called 'K50 firmware'.

Open' K50 firmware' and click on the file (K50_v110.zip) you've downloaded. It should self extract into the 'K50 firmware' folder. You'll see a file Fwdc222b.bin.

Put an/the SD card for your camera into an SD card reader attached to your computer. Copy the file Fwdc222b.bin to it, making sure it's in the root, i.e. not inside another folder like DCIM.

Remove the card from the computer card reader, then follow the instructions from Pentax.
