The value of older Pentax lenses has shot up in recent years, I wonder if it has anything to do with the backwards compatability of Pentax DSLRs

I think it also shows that Pentax are selling more cameras, after all "we" already had collections of old lenses so the majority of these sales must be going to newcomers.

Cant believe the price of that 85mm though

The lack of anything longer than 300mm in the current line-up probably contributes the the high value of the 400mm. Post-M series lenses certainly command higher prices, and unsurprisingly primes do better than zooms. I'd really like a 85mm lens one day, but not at that price!

The monocular converter is the only one I have ever seen for sale.

I have just picked up an SMC 400mm 5.6 Takumar for £180, The seller descibes it as 9+ out of 10, I will make that judgement when it arrives.

The thing is I got it at the starting price and was expecting it to fetch around £300 so maybe the credit crunch has hit us first.

I too saw that 400mm, started low but in the end...

I have the feeling that the high price exceptions are becoming more and more common.

This is not good, when one is just starting lens hoarding...

Plus I'm really stingy and really like a bargain (I have yet to buy a SMC-Tak 135mm cuz I stubbornly want to buy it under £18 ).

SMC Takumar 135mm average 31 quid. The cheapest I have on the database went for 24 quid.

I picked mine up in January for £225 ex P & P . They are pretty rare items and I don't recall seeing another in the last couple of years.

I was the under bidder on the smc A 400mm . Not interested in the 500mm now down to £800 (ish) - price tag is bit rich, even if its a rare lens.

Even 50mm f1.7 have started going for high prices. the last couple I've watched have gone for over £30!

As for the monocular converter, is that the eye piece thing that sits on a manual lens turning it into a telescope?
Cheers, HG

Yes, exactly that. Multiplies the focal length by five too.

Can't help you with that one as I have never seen one for sale. In fact, I have never seen one fullstop

There's an OM version here at the moment, looks like it's a foreign dealer leading the bidding.

The one I pictured is mine which I got for around £5, three years ago.

It lives in my bag and makes a super little scope with a 135 lens.

I saw one going for £20 before I even has the K10D, so at the time I decided I'd get one, just bellow that... Bit of a dream really, my "database" (guess where the idea came from) says about the same price as yours.
