update, no longer for sale as turned down MPB final offer so will be keeping to Pentax. Just have to be selective in what i do and only take out just what i need to do it. Not been very good at that over the years and just take everything . Get a smaller bag might be a start.

I have tested the water with Olympus, with a good-as-new body and a couple of PRO lenses, and of course it is much lighter and the results are very good. It is nice to be able to walk around with a small shoulder bag all day so I get shots I might otherwise not have. The handling is good and the build quality with weather sealing is excellent. However I am not ready to abandon my K1 and Pentax lenses yet, when it comes to post processing the difference in quality is noticeable: noise is easier to deal with, the files have greater dynamic range and can be cropped more, and the bokeh is cleaner giving that “pop” with the better lenses. Probably these differences would be less noticeable on an APS-C body with a similar pixel count, especially compared to the latest OM1.

My solution to the Pentax weight issue over the last couple of years was to get some small prime lenses but that leads to the perennial problem of which lenses (and filters) to put in the bag and the limitations that brings. Having got the Olympus I put those primes up for sale (offers anyone?) so I now have two options, lightweight kit or slimmed-down heavier but higher resolution kit.

have tried an M10 mk2 in the past, excellent build quality and decent images but found a) i struggled to post process the files compared to the Pentax and they often had the appearance of being over sharpened straight from camera but the biggest problem was for me the lack of or difficulty to get shallow depth of field or subject seperation. I know i did not have PRO lenses also don't have a bottomless pit of money being a pensioner but the ones i had were classed as good by Olly users. I personally think the Pro lenses grossly overpriced compared Pentax , 300mm f4 pentax aroud £1000, Olly 300mm f4 around £2000 . Not even going that high a decent wide angle aps-c Sigma 10-20 , second hand about £120 olly/ panny equivalent or thereabouts 7-14 £300 plus. Just my experiences, glad in the end i backed away from losing my Pentax kit, rose tinted glasses had me with tunnel vision on the weight issue when there is so much more to consider in favour of the bigger sensors.

Interesting thread this. Was becoming concerned with what I felt to be the weight issue for Pentax so ended up with a Leica and as well as a Fuji 100f. For reasons mentioned elsewhere I ended up selling both. I simply felt more comfortable with the Pentax.

In the meantime I've stayed with my K1ii and now the K3iii, (my K3ii still for sale by the way). When out and about I take a 21mm with the K1, (my main lens on a recent holiday), and if out with the K3iii, the 15mm. They're fit for (my) purpose. They're also light enough. When I think there's a need for something more, the 24-70 and the 40mm, (I use primes only on the K3iii). I have no doubt that others will have their own preferences.

redbusa99's comments resonated with me especially his point re. weight issue and bigger sensors.
Be well, stay safe.

The time I noticed the difference between a mirrorless viewfinder and a prismatic one was looking at autumn colours in a wood, the colours in the EVF were quite desaturated and I had to keep checking to see if the composition was right. On the rear screen they were fine being of higher resolution, but probably with the latest and more expensive bodies it would be less of an issue. Redbus’s comment about the 300mm lens isn’t really a fair comparison as on the Olympus it would effectively be double the focal length at 600mm, although I agree it is still costly. My 40-150mm f4 lens, effectively 80-300mm, cost about £645 recently and gives very good results.

Regarding the weight of the k1ii paired with something like a DFA 50mm 1.4 or paired with my da 200mm can be an issue, which is why I'm thinking of purchasing a proper wrist strap or hand strap to be precise as the added support distributed across the back of ones hand should enable better handling and balance for various lens combination choices.
The hand strap from altura looks really nice as do others like joby etc l hope they fit for the k1ii nicely
the neck strap will be no longer needed and i will never give up the k1 it is everything in a dslr i ever dreamed of the files are unbelievable and top notch quality as pointed to by RobL

Flan, I have attached Peak Design connectors to my cameras and straps so they can be put on and taken off easily, as well as the Peak Design wrist strap. I also have a Peak Design strap which is more heavy duty and feels better when attaching large lenses. This system gives me flexibility for different situations. The neck strap is useful if you want both hands free such as changing lenses on the go or needing to steady yourself when negotiating somewhere precarious.

Totally understand RobL about the neck straps importance and I normally bag my camera when on the move depending on the terrain , I recently christened my beautiful new Rollei carbon tripod Beta mkii in a cow platter as I slipped and got caught out by suction of the mud as I tried to save myself and my clothing from being covered in _____ in me wellington boots I was, thinking i was safe and I was so glad it didn't have the k1 attached , mind you it did, the tripod wash up pretty clean under the outside garden tap when back home.
Could have been a lot worse
