So how good is the K-5 sensor

Hi Mike, yes it will - used IR remote with my Kx. It can also be set so that the first press opens the shutter and the second closes it. Very nice for single long exposures, not much use for shot stacking though.
You don't have to spend a fortune on a remote either, I found a small universal remote from the pound shop did the trick

Thanks for the feedback on this, very interesting, though I would probably have forked out on the Pentax ORC-1 remote if I was to go down this route and assume it could would offer the same function useable with the K-r & K5.
However to stay on topic the K5 sensor is still the biggest temtation though I'm now going to take another look at the K-r.
Thanks

My order for a K5 goes off first thing Monday. Can anyone tell me, is the battery in a K5 the same as a K10?

No, its the same as the K-7 (which is different to the K10D)My order for a K5 goes off first thing Monday. Can anyone tell me, is the battery in a K5 the same as a K10?

No harm to mention it's a D-LI190.
The K10D uses the same battery (D-LI50) as originally used by the Maxum 7D (NP 400) identical batteries which pleased me no end to have a common battery platform.
Then things changed with the K7 and the D700.

No, it doesn't. It may be the same or a similar size physically, but the NP400 is 1500 mAh and the Pentax DL-I50 is 1620 mAh.

John is correct in that the Pentax issue battery is supplied as 1620mAh.
The 'DL-150' is in a way a generic battery as it is standard to more than one item rather than Pentax specific. i.e It is the same battery as the Minolta NP400 Battery (VB104055)+ other items across the camcorder range, with the exception of the mAh rating stated ON the battery.
The generic 150 refers to the capacity of the battery in mAh's - basically the life of the battery between charges. It can be 'delivered as 1450 - 1700mAh depending on the batch and would be badged as such.
It also varies between third part suppliers even though badged as a DL-150, ie, Inova, Impact etc. The difference between 1500 and 1620 mAh just means longer to charge/more shots between charges.
You can in actual fact find the 'Pentax DL-150 battery advertised as 1750mAh, although i suspect that this will be a 're-badged' version.
The DL-190 is pretty much the same and can appear advertised varying from 1400mAh - 2000mAh.
From personal experience with 'both versions' there appears to be no variance in performance, certainly over time. If their is a loss in life then it would need VERY close monitoring to validate.
At the end of the day it is almost certainly 'marketing practices' from individual manufacturers designed to help confuse us and even take more money of us for what could be the same item.

Only physically identical. As for capacity, most manufacturers put capacity figures of slightly different values, yet never show discharge/capacity data. Quote:

Either way, the Minolta 7D and K10D battery is directly interchangeable link

Well thanks all, especially MikeP. All I needed to know was if my spare K10 battery could be a spare for the K5 also. Answer: Nope.

The k10D also has a very good CCD sensor, I'm sure it will still have his use even when you've a K5.

Not sure a remote release will do extended exposures, never used one
Mike
You don't have to spend a fortune on a remote either, I found a small universal remote from the pound shop did the trick
Anyway, back to the K-5...
