So how good is the K-5 sensor

Interesting link Gary, looking at the comparisons I would have thought RAW processed by identical workflow would have been used for a closer to level playing field comparison.

However I do think the lens choice is relevant, both are good quality primes, are well respected for their optical quality and therefore to me it gives more of 'realworld' comparison.

I suspect the difference is more down to the Jpeg engine in both cameras than lens quality per-say. With RAW output I'm sure the Pentax would have the potential to draw level or even nudge ahead
(low pass filter influence aside).

It's a win win situation for both camps, Pentax and Nikon. No one will jump ship for either model, but each offer their respective users marked improvements over existing class models. I need a second Nikon body and was all set up to buy another D700, until the D7000 appeared.

Will I buy a K-5, let's wait and see. Long term (1 year), I want to see what a D4 and a K-? offer, once they arrive.

Quite a strange experience to read such positive comments about Pentax by non-Pentaxians.

On a different course, with the current interest with the K5 which is surely going to be a positive for Pentax and Hoya, what are the chances of some new lenses being developed, any thoughts as to what may be comming around the corner?

28, 50, 70 mm versions of old lens designs now in all plastic bodies like the 35mm 2.4....

wr versions of the ltds.....

and a 600 mm f5.6 wr....

no need to re-invent the wheel, when you can slip some new tires on your old rims....

the reason I speculate on the 600 is this.... somebody correct me if I'm wrong....
if they can release the same lens using many of the same elements, one optimized for the 645-d and one re-engineered for the k-5 they can share some of the developing costs between two market segments and appeal to nature photogs from both k-5 and 645d buyers...

and if it can focus fast... you maay see Pentax at sporting events again....

Personally I would like to see some WR primes @ f2, and a Tele converter. Pentax are you reading this! Seeing more Pentax cameras at any events would be great.

Luckily for Jessops I do know about camera's, so feel free to come into our Taunton Store for a chat! They have just started to offer Pentax SLR's on-line again - however I'd already bought my K-5 elsewhere as I decided it was the best camera available. Pentax being removed from the range was probably a commercial one - read the press from a year or so ago for the clues....
