Snowdonia shot - keep or delete?

We're so jealous here...our favourite stomping ground for twenty odd years. Roll-on Whitsun!
Nice shot (can't really go wrong there, can you?) Light's really too flat for a winner but at least the exposure is easier when it's gloomy. I might cheat and select the foreground (everything this side of the lake) and boost the contrast with Curves. Then I'd almost certainly try a punchy monochrome conversion. But there again, it's only an opinion.
Nice to know it's all still there...
Keep shooting until I get there!

looks like a keeper to me. It's probably an optical illusion but it looks a to me like it needs rotating slightly clockwise. I can't work out if that is just because the mountains are higher to the right though.

Great shot. Being able to capture the image as it is a sign of a good photographer. So what if the light is not prefict, it captures the mood. Sometimes, that is more important.

I certainly agree with Timbo on this - mono would be better. Perhaps play around with the curves in photoshop to emphasise the cloud a little more. In black and white I can see that working very well; creating a moody and atmospheric feel.

To answer the original question...
Keep.
Keep.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

As it is it seems too flat to me, but the scene is lovely. I wonder if a mono conversion might do the trick, or upping contrast and vibrance in PP. Definitely worth playing around with a bit more.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, very useful as usual..
As suggested I've done a quick mono conversion (levelled too)

It seems the shot has enough fans, but I'm going to have to dissent - partly in the hope that subsequent comment might clarify my thinking. The scene and framing is okay, but to me the image looks over-processed. Both in colour and in B&W.
IMO there's something wrong with the balance of the picture, that makes it look unnatural. It's almost HDR in its effect. Perhaps the shadows have been lightened too much. And the sky doesn't look quite right, to my eye - though I know I've made similar comments on other photos only to be in a minority. Also, it seems a little soft - perhaps a consequence of lost contrast through use of fill shadows?
Maybe it's just me, but I'd be interested to see what others might have to say.

Well I'm not convinced by it - to my old eyes it has the look and feel of an old style postcard. The colours are a bit, well flat is the wrong word, just subdued in what seems to me an unnatural way.
In colour the foreground looks a bit grubby which is hardly surprising given the time of year and in B&W nothing looks sharp. In fact in colour nothing really looks that sharp - which is perhaps where I get my postcard feel from as the printing process they used sometimes resulted in less than razor sharp images.

I had a little play with your image. Nothing earthshaking, it's more of a green filter conversion which I'm in two minds about. But I think this image shows that there is more detail to be recovered in the highlights of the mountains.

Hi Simon,
Perhaps it was the light available to you on the day that has defeated this image. The backdrop holds the key to me - it is not only lit by the sun, but consists of a highly reflective surface of snow. Thus it draws the eye. By comparison ("contrast") to it, the rest of the image is fairly flat.
Therefore, this is ultimately about relativities, not absolutes.
All the best!

Simon,
Hate to say it but told you so...mono has rescued many a dull-day image for me!
Well done!
