Tyneside is proud of its thriving kittiwake population. World wide kittiwakes are declining but here the population thrives as they nest in Quayside buildings such as The Baltic and Tyne Bridge, the world's most inland habitat for the gulls. But there is a downside...... .

"Tyneside is proud of its thriving kittiwake population. "

They even named a pub after them in Whitley Bay!
SteveH!

Some people call me 'strange'.
I prefer 'unconventional'.
But I'm willing to compromise and accept 'eccentric'.

Ain't nature wonderful! I suppose we mustn't complain, it's probably doing less harm to us than our plastic is doing to them. Does the 5th one suggest why hoodies were invented?

An interesting set of pictures illustrating an interesting fact that hadn't previously reached this southerner. Thanks for posting.

Great photos.
We have kittiwakes in Scarborough too.
Gulls here seem to upset the council here who have resorted to netting which is trapping kittiwakes as well as the intended herring gulls.
