Nice!

I've been doing a few of these smoke shots myself recently but I'm struggling to come up with something that will give me reliable (repeatable) patterns. I've read joss sticks are supposed to be good but I don't seem to be getting much joy from them.

The best one (for me) so far was this:

...which was achieved using bits of old newspaper in an ashtray. I'm really looking for something that creates a finer plume though so if anyone has any suggestions..?

I've seen a chimney sweep use smoke bombs to test the efficacy of a chimney but I dont know what they are called or where you might get them. A good old fashioned ironmonger perhaps?

December's Digital Camera magazine has a smoke image. the guy used two flashes, an incense stick. slow shutter and turned the lights off.

Don, I would suggest the images is too turbulent, perhaps a smoother smokle stream would be better?

three parts potasium nitrate (saltpetere) to two parts sugar. or was that three parts sugar...maybe try 50/50.....
mix the powders together or alternatively, melt the sugar over low heat (recommend a hot plate outdoors). when sugar melts, add saltpetere and cook till it carmalizes, spoon drops onto a nostick baking sheet, and let cool.
Disclamer....this stuff burns hot and fast (even without air) and don't sue me if it explodes on you.

or try a glycol/glyceryn based fog machine.... or dry ice and warm water....

I don't have a fog machine but I'll give your saltpetre/sugar recipe a go - cheers for that!
