Small Problem

It's probably to do with your custom setting for EV steps (exposure value). This can be set to move in jumps of 1/2 or 1/3 EV, and this may be preventing the exact shutter setting of 1/180th. So try changing that firstly.
1/180th sec is really better described, I think, as the 'maximum flash sync speed'. With a flash activated on the camera in normal flash mode then you can't set a shorter time value. It can be good to use the max sync speed in certain scenarios when you need to get the most power out of a flash in balancing bright surrounding light.
Otherwise, longer time values will bring more ambient light into the exposure, a way to balance natural and flash light.
To get even shorter exposure times than 1/180th with flash, then the camera needs to detect a 'High Speed 'Sync' capable flash on the hotshoe,, set to HSS mode.
The X exposure mode (does the K-50 have this?) should fix 1/180th automatically .... But I haven't found any practical use for that mode really, when manual mode can do the same easily enough ....

Thank you for your answer. I don't know why I didn't think of that. It did fix the problem, and now I have a good reason to use the custom settings available, because I normally set my EV steps in 1/3 steps.
