I like the first fly best. Excuse my ignorance, how does the Vivitar Teleconverter help?

Excellent stuff Mike, a bit more DOF on the ant though.

It allows me to get much better magnification which means all the shots here are uncropped apart from a little trimming.

It also means that if I want to crop I can do so with little quality loss.




I did try but the thing was half the size of my little finger nail and constantly moving

Mike, if you keep showing images like these taken with your macro flash you will have me wanting to buy on too

By the way, about the manification, doesn't the Pentax 1.7X adapter do the same job as well? Again you will have to excuse my ignorance on this please, but I have no clue about your setup even though you have just explained. For me all those terms with the exception of the ring flash is all unknown. Someone care to break that down in layman's terms please :wink

Amin I have no idea either to be honest, I do know that the 1.7x will not do the same thing as the Vivitar macro converter though.

The Vivitar is basically an extension tube with a lens and as I understand it is used mainly to turn a 50mm into a 1:1 macro lens by allowing you to focus closer so therefore on a 90mm macro it will give more magnification that a straight teleconverter.

I am sure there are others on here that will know more about how these things work than me.

So the vivitar macro converter you have been using usually attached to a normal 50mm will convert it into a 1:1 Macro, but using with the 90mm (in my case it would be the 100mm Macro) obviously it blows the magnification much higher.

I don't think the 1.7X adapter would be any close to that magnification at all, it actually works differently in fact.

Will have to keep an eye on one of those vivitars, would love to get my hands on one and try it on the 100mm.
Are they available around? Ebay perhaps? What do they sell for? Can't afford expensive gadgets you know until I sell or trade off my K20

So does the Vivitar converter actually reduce the distance a lens can focus down to. e.g 1.5ft for a std. 50mm lens becomes say 0.75ft.

When you first put it on the lens and connect it to the body it works exactly the same as a 2x teleconverter but there is also a focus type ring on it which, when turned reduces the focus distance.

Amin, there are 2 types, one with the A connectors which sell for around £60 on Ebay and a non A type which sells for around £40. I have both but dont use the non A type since I found the one with the electrical connections.
