My wife Sue uses a Canon S30 and some of the Jessops CF cards are SanDisk. There is only a very slight delay writing to any of the cards, no longer than the brief time the last picture is displayed, and she has never perceived it as a problem. Only a subjective answer, I know, but I hope it helps a little.
Best regards, John

John,

It's normally not a problem when writing a JPG image file - they're only 1 to 3Mb. However, when writing RAW image files, things go up drastically.

The S30 takes quite a while for a RAW, but the *istD - I think someone mentioned in the order of 26 seconds per frame. It is really when you do a bulk transfer that card speed becomes apparent.

BTW, if you want to test the relative performance of CF cards, plug them into a PCMCIA adapter and into a notebook PC. Then try and copy a file (in the order of 10Mb) - it'll give a better idea of what the card can do. Alternatively, if you have a firewire card reader - that'll do. Don't use USB 1 card readers since USB is bottlenecked anyway.

I have a Fuji card, and a DaneElec - the DaneElec is quite a bit slower (can't remember how much) when doing a RAW file on the S30.

One day, I might get around to testing it out for real.

Speculation about final pricing by some in this thread seems to have been bang on the nail, I see that www.parkcameras.com are advertising the body at 1,200 - don't get to excited - they haven't got any stock, just taking orders!

CameraWorld took delivery of their first batch of *ist Ds yesterday. I managed to phone in time to secure the last one. Due to be delivered on Tuesday. I hope that they're good guys to deal with!
GBP1200 for body only, GBP1300 including the 18-35.

Ooops,

In my haste, I forgot the link:

There's also Phil Askey's comments on the main page:
Quote:
Pentax *ist D production samples posted
Exclusive: I have just posted a gallery of 25 sample images from a production Pentax *ist D. This is in advance of completing our full review which should be up within the next two weeks. So far the *ist D is looking quite good, there are two sides to the *ist D's image quality story. Firstly tonal balance and color response are both good, a natural color response and lifted shadow detail with highlight clipping at about the same point as most other digital SLR's. Noise is also quite low, about the same as the Nikon D100 (which is what we'd expect as they both share the same sensor). The other side is that Pentax has clearly chosen a low sharpening approach, at 100% view most images have a soft look but do sharpen well and can be delivered sharper out of the camera by pushing up in-camera sharpening. The lenses available to me meant I was most likely to be shooting 'wide open' and thus have less sharp images as a consequence. Overall the *ist D is looking 'so far so good'. (13:35 GMT)

Okay. Camera delivered this morning, as promised. I'll need more time to play with it, but I'm very happy so far!
