Slow Shutter Speeds

The slow speeds on my S3 are slow. The faster speeds are fine. Can this be easily & economically repaired by a technician?

Hi,
It may seem like a silly question but is this and old pre spotmatic S3 or one of the modern digitals? If it is the old S3, it needs a service and CLA. If so Eric would be your best bet as you are in the USA.

It's a pre-spotmatic S3. I just received the camera. I have a regular tech I use for CLAs & such. I was just trying to get as much info as I could before approaching the subject with him.

The shutter used in pre-Spotmatic cameras is not so durable, so it is more than likely that it will need overhaul.

For regular use, I would always prefer a Spotmatic, which is more ruggedly designed in many ways.

However, the S3 is a nice camera and why not keep it going a little longer, especially if it is in good cosmetic condition.
Best regards, John

I'm hopefully going to be acquiring a couple of other SV type bodies over the course of the next couple of months, & with those 3 alternating duties with a Spotmatic, coupled with my economical shooting habits, regular use takes on a different meaning. If one or another is out of service at some point in time, it won't be a major problem.
