Slow

I've noticed it to be very slow lately.

Not here in Norway. I have found the site to load quite normally during the last week, but then I'm on a 10 Mbit fibre broadband

Btw, at the very bottom on this page there is a Report problem/Suggestions link, where you can report problems to the administrators.

I've never had any problems at all. It must be either the AV/Firewalls or your ISP sending you along a slow pipe/connection.

Unfortunately a traceroute doesn't go all the way to Pentaxuser, but should show if anything along the way is causing the slowdown.

If you are getting a route that goes via Sweden - the problem is with your ISP doing some very bizarre routing...!

I haven't noticed any specific slowness either, and I usually visit several times a day.

Nothing AFAICS consistent with anything unusual.

Yes it has been reported.

From clicking on the link in an email to the page being displayed - around 60 seconds.


Flossie, it is not my ISP that routes it via Sweden. My ISP gets to a peering point in London where it accepts traffic from the other network provider - the link from PU to the peering point may go via a Swedish node - unless a .SE server is actually in the UK.

And if you just go straight to the site, ie without clicking on an e-mail link?

I never have email notifications set so I can't say how long it takes then.
Is it only then that it is slow, or also switching pages on the forum once it is up and running?

Even page to page in the forums can take 50-60 seconds ...

Just running a full trace and the routing to Telehouse in London is fine.

The routing from PU back to London has changed this evening and the .SE nodes have gone. My ISP has NO control over that portion. However the PU server is failing to respond to interrogation. There were some massive delays to those nodes earlier.

Gut feel now though is that there is possibly a server problem, which when added to a little network problem would give the very slow responses.

Every report made is answered and the situation is being monitored. The site is very fast from my PC, but of course that will vary depending whewre you are and how you access PU.

Generally I try Photodo to see if the servers are OK - if that doesn't load properly and briskly then nothing else will!

I do know there was a server glitch, hence the multiple e-mail newsletters, so any issues may have been related to that incident. Hopefully by now things will be back to normal.

Ironically, the last couple of days the Other Site has been running like a deceased hamster (this one has been fine - the only time it was a bit clunky was on a 3G connection, but too many variables there...)

Had to wait nearly 60 sec to get onto the site just now.
