Skomer Landscapes

A mixed bag of landscapes from a recent trip to Skomer Island.

2, 3 and 5 pop for me Nigel, nicely shot sir

Yes, 2, 3 and 5 for me too.

2 has enough blur to suggest movement but successfully avoids the 'sea of milk' effect that I really, really dislike.
5 manages seems to show land, sea and sky as different aspects of the same thing. Thought provoking.
3 is deeply mysterious. There's an impression of diagonal lines (even though there are none) which, to me at least, conveys a sense of movement through the picture.

Great set Nigel - I understand the popularity of 2, 3 and 5 but it's number 1 that is the stand out for me - the composition is great, I like the fact you've broken the "rule of thirds". I love the limited colour palette, it may not have the punch of some of the others but it's subtle range really makes it. The simplicity is just spot on for me.

Intriguing set... very much like the sense of emptiness... and the stripped back colour palette... no.3 for me in particular, for its composition, and its almost-but-not-quite-sure-what-it-is-ness...

Having been there several times and also stayed on Thorne Island, those OOF shots completely capture the bleakness, desolation and wildness of the place.

Thank you all for your comments and taking the time to mention specific shots and preferences, always interesting to hear what others think of and how they read ones photographs. Very much in my mind when I was taking these was "Skomer Impressions" or "Impressions of Skomer" keeping it simple, grounded and trying to avoid blinging things up.

LennyBloke as you may imagine I have have versions with the horizon all over the place but vaguely in the middle won it for me for this shot, it just fitted best.

Pschlute I think I've captured some of the energy of the sea and the colours of where the land meets the sea in No.2
David, I'm delighted that you can identify with them from your own memories and feelings of Skomer.

Very much enjoying these, Nigel. They capture what I like best a photograph to capture: a sense of feeling, an infra-reality of sorts... 1 & 4 in particular are strong in that regard. 2 & 5 seem to be sidestepping the view (and that is a very good thing), and 3 lets the imagination run wild. 7 echoes 1 in a way, and is a fine landscape. Great set!

Being a Welsh resident, I should really buck up and visit Skomer.

Very nice. I particularly like #2, 3 and 5.

This set reminds me of Bill's style of imagery.
