Skake Reduction

I've been looking at the metadata from my recent images to see when I have turned off the SR, I tend to leave it on most of the time but wanted to check.

In PhotoMe it says its either Stabilized, Not Stabilized or Not Ready. So unsure which one means it is turned off, I installed the latest version of Pentax Photo Browser. In there it says either Enabled, Disabled or Off.

Just to confuse me even more, with 2 of my images in PhotoMe it says Not Stabilized but in PPB one is enabled and the other disabled.

Why can't these things be straight forward.

Enabled and Disabled both refer to the SR being switched on.

When you activate the meter (by half-pressing the shutter button) it takes a fraction of a second for the SR to be ready (the green hand symbol illuminates in the viewfinder). If you shoot before the green hand lights up then it'll show as "Disabled", if the green hand had time to light up then it'll show as "Enabled".

Another time when SR is switched on but "Disabled" is when you use either a remote shutter release or the built in timer - both of these override the SR as the camera will assume you're using a tripod.

Off refers to the SR being switched off.

Does that make it any clearer?

I have had the same curiosity. Photome generally seems to give more info than PPB. I got the impression looking at photos and comparing what PM was reporting was that Stabilised meant that IS had functioned succesfully, Not stabilised meant that it had tried to stabilise the picture but had failed and Not ready meant that it was switched off or inhibited by the camera mode (for example two second delay selected). I too have seen discrepancies between PPB and PM.

Thanks Hefty. That make sense now.

I wish they could just keep things simple and have Stabilized, Not Stabilised and Off.
