Few shots from Silverstone this year, taken from Luffield, Club corner and Becketts over the 3 days, plus a bonus of seeing the drivers at an autograph session.

A really excellent set, have to say these are amongst the best I have seen so far. Love 7, 11, 15 and 18 .. think 16 could do with a bit more contrast on the arrows themselves.

Really excellent photos. Lovely to see close ups of the drivers.

I really like #s 7 and 11 but #15 is the one I keep being drawn back to.

Hi, excellent. I've not been to Silverstone since moving up to DSLR's so a little jealous.

It would be nice to learn more technically, ie lenses used. SR on or off when panning, ISO level etc.

You were clearly weather resistant! Dry on race day at least.

Not a bad shot amongst them and some quite superb ones too. Love the shots in the rain best.

Thanks for all the comments. I took loads of pictures over the 3 days and struggled to narrow it down to some of my favorites. I'll look through and post some more.

Hi Bill, all cars shot with K5 and Sigma 100-300F4, I did shoot some with the pentax 1.7xTC but couldn't see much difference in IQ from a cropped sigma shot so stopped using it.

With the K5 I generally shoot in TAV mode and use auto ISO, adjusting the aperture until I'm happy with the results. Some of the darker shots ISO was quite high ie 2000 +. Shutter speed varies depending on light and the effect I was trying to achieve.

Trying to freeze the cars coming towards me I would try for 1/2000 or higher, although some at 1/1600. However with the rain in was also nice to freeze them side on and capture the water spray.

Panning shutter speed varied from 1/80 to 1/500, I feel the water allows a faster shutter speed and still gives the effect of movement. Did not use SR, did use a monpod for head on shots. Most of these shots are cropped.

All shots taken from grandstands looking at the cars coming round the corners for head on, Club corner is good as theres no general admission in front of you so you're quite close to the track if you get to the front of the grandstand.

George

Well executed panning shots in 12 and 13, but like some have mentioned 15 ... there's something about that one.
