Silly question (probably)

Good Moaning all from the very chilly Creuse,

I want to make a female K to male m42 adapter to enable me to use pk lenses on a m42 set of bellows.

Lots of scribbling on bits of paper has led me to believe the easiest way to do this would be to buy a cheap m42 2x converter and remove the femaile thread and replace it with a female k fitting from a pk converter.

Or replace the male pk fitting on a pk converter with an m42 male fitting.

Now the question I can't answer is whether this is feasable as I don't have a m42 converter to see it they are the same diameter - so was hoping that one of you kind people who have old lenses could tell me whether they are the same sort of sizes.

Many thanks,
Charlotte

I hope the above makes sense.

I don't know if this can be done easily, but looking at it a different way, have you thought of using a pair of short extension tubes, 1 x M42 + 1 x PK and somehow join them together?

If you use a TC, surely you'll have to remove the glass as well.

Part of this kit seems to be a female PK adapter to which the rest of tubes attach. It shouldn't be too difficult to fix this to a M42 tube or TC.

Hi Peter,

Yep, I'd have to remove the glass. That's not difficult I've taken out the glass of pk teleconverters to use as extention tubes.

No I hadn't thought of sticking extention tubes together - that might be easier. I'll look into that.

Thank you,

Hi Charlotte,

You may be able to cobble something together with something like this: link

It is basically a three section extension tube with a screw on PK male at the rear and screw on PK female at the front. If you could get one (or something similar) for M42 as well, you'd be able to swap the M42 female end for the PK one.

Obviously you'd have to find a 'matching pair' (I can't right now) for it to work

You could try SRB who may be able to help:link

Thanks Peter,

ebay won't let me see those - but I think I know what you mean.

I have a cheap set of PK extention tubes so can use the female fitting on that - I need to get an m42 set so I can utilise the male thread.

Thanks again,

This ones dead easy

Buy a T2 M42 adapter. one_on_ebay_link
Undo the 3 grub screws and remove the inner ring which
isn't needed.

The adapter will fit over the K bayonet on the end of
a short extension tube or directly to lens.

Lightly tighten the 3 grub screws attach to bellows,
mark with a piece of tape on the T2 ring where the
top of the T2 ring (TDC) is when screwed home.

Remove T2 from bellows slacken screws and rotate so that the
K mount is in the normal position.

Tighten the grub screws so that each one is recessed into
the T2 mount by the same amount so that the extension tube
is centred.... there's about 1.5mm of play.

Half Man... Half Pentax ... Half Cucumber

Pentax K-1 + K-5 and some other stuff

Thanks John.

I've just had another thought whilst scribbling and looking at the female pk of the extention tube.

If I were to get an m42 reversing ring I could presumably stick/solder that to the female pk bit of the extention tube and that would make an adapter.

Sounds too easy though.

Thanks Algi,

I can't see your link either - but I'll find another one so that I can 'picture' what you are describing.

That's a bit puzzling . . . unless you've recently moved to North Korea. Can you see anything on www.ebay.co.uk ?

That link works Peter,

Thanks Algi,

It makes perfect sense now I've seen your piccies. I didn't know what a T2 adapter looked like so couldn't picture what you were explaining.

I've ordered a T2 adapter from hong kong for £5.50 including postage (probably the same one that you linked to that I can't see. :lol

Thanks again everyone,

T2 adapter arrived today - but I can't get it to line up centrally on the lens or extention tube because the aperture lever is in the way.

I should be able to mount a K fit reversing ring to it though as that obviously won't have anything in the way.

Kind regards
Charlotte
