silkypix 3

I have recently obtained Silkypix Developer studio 3.0 with new camera, I would like to know if it will run under Win 7 64 bit, the 64 bit being the crux.I have tried it but it will not load files from my old camera (K100D) or Jpegs, also there is no save menu under file, any help would be appreciated.

I will only comment on the Save issue, as I'm not familiar that that version - but it is an earlier version I think, so is likely to be 32bit.

I believe that Silkypix use the term 'develop' when carrying out the conversion from RAW to a pixel based image file. Try looking on the toolbar or in the menus for the function 'develop' instead of 'Save As'.

John - normally when you load a disc into a 64-bit OS, the pc determines if the software itself is written for 32-bit, 64-bit, or both, then write the program to the correct folder. With the software disc in the cd tray, right-click the drive containing the cd/dvd, then browse the contents of the disc. I would expect to see a folder indicating 64-bit if it's set up for that, but in its absence I'd safely assume that it's 32-bit. If you right-click "my computer", then browse to program files and then opening it, there should be 2 distinct folders - one or other will indicate that it contains 32-bit programs which leads to the conclusion that the other is 64-bit. Open either of them out, and look for Silkypix in the list of programs in either folder. If it's in the 32-bit folder, then it's set up to run as that - if it shows up in the 64-bit folder, then it will run as 64-bit, and if it appears in both folders, rejoice!!

You can run 32-bit apps under a 64-bit OS (but not the other way round)

If its the Pentax Silkypix version check out their website. I'm sure saw a download to make older versions compatible with Win7.

Never say never, substitute 'not easily' for 'not'

In this case it is never, 64bit code won't run on a 32bit processor.

I have the full version of Silkypix DS 3.0 (32bit only) circa 2008 and yes it is possible to run on WIN7 64bit

Before you run the installation .exe file on Win7 64bit, right click on the .exe file and select the "Compatability" tab, set the compatability to WIN XP SP3 and close then right click again and select "Run as administrator"

The last update file I have is SilkypixE30183EP.exe, works a treat

Silkypix 3.0 comes as standard with the K-01 - not sure if it the full version, but it looks as though it is and it is certainly very different from PDCU4 supplied with the K-5. I can confirm it runs fine in Windows 8 64 bit.

Now seeing that screenshot above, for the second part of the question, I think you click on the button 'Development' for the conversion (ie'save as') options.

Many thanks for all your advice I have now loaded the program and it as loaded into the x86 part of my windows, the reason I thought it was not working right was because it had no save command under the file command, its the first program I have ever seen that is like this, I shall now play about with it and see how it functions.
