Hi, I recently (about 3 months ago) purchased the Pentax X-5 from Amazon, as it was on sale for £150, and about 3 weeks ago, I managed to get my hands on a K-X with the bog standard 18-55mm lens for £170 and I was just wondering, being a complete newcomer to photography, is the X-5 worth keeping

Probably! It has a 16mp sensor, whereas the K-x is 12.3mp, but the X-5 is not in the same league as the K-x despite the higher resolution.

The K-x is a proper photographer's tool with all of the flexibility that a DSLR brings. I suppose whether you keep the X-5 or not depends on your needs, but it is a handy point and shoot camera, good for more casual use.

My suggestion would be to keep the X-5 for now, but learn how to use the K-x to its full potential and if you're doing more serious photography there's no contest, the K-x wins hands down. Also, the K-x will accept any K-mount lens, which opens up a whole world of possibilities.

If you can afford to keep both then I would say yes.

You have a much longer focal length with the X-5 (probably 2/3 lenses worth) and there are times when we all prefer to travel light and carry one camera rather than a heavy bag with camera and an assortment of lenses.

Of course it all depends if you would carry a camera around with you most of the time.

Edit: basically what David said

chhers guys, was thinking of hanging on to it, for reasons like you listed, its quite handy point and shoot and a higher zoom rate etc, so thanks for taking time to reply
