There is a new version of SILKYPIX available from their website. It adds another couple of cameras and "Improve the quality of JPEG encoding"

I really like that they keep developing it at this rate.
One thing I still miss however is LZW or ZIP compression for the TIFF files. I mailed them about this and they have no plans on including this.
It is however quite easy with Photoshop to do batch processing of a complete folder.

What I am wondering about is what would be a good system for Silkypix. On my P4@3,06GHz with 1024MB DDR-400 seems a little sluggish with Silkypix espcially image updating in the preview pane is dead slow.
So I wonder if I need some extra memory or that my 4 year old P4 needs replacement....

Your systems should be fine with Silkypix its probably down to other issues.

How many images are in preview at one time.
How fast is your graphics card
How fast is the hard disk (if you're reading from an external usb one it will be slow.)

I'm running athlon 3200+ with 2gb DDR400 and silkypix is great even with 200 images prievewed at once. But I am using a 256mb dual head graphics card which made a lot of difference to performance when I put it in.

If your graphics card is on the mainboard and not in a slot then it will use shared memory from the board which can be very slow.

My approach would be
Check the graphics card and upgrade is less than 128mb RAM
if that fine add a second HDD of at least 7200rpm (if you already have 2 HDD's check they are on seperate channels and using ATA133 cables or on SATA)
If none of that works then give the PC another 1Gb of RAM (which will also speed up photoshop if opening more than C10-15 high res images at once.)

I was wondering about the LZW compression in the TIF files. Apparently LZW is copyright of Unisys who expect royalties...
