I'd be glad to receive some objective comments on this - does it work?

My best on this is

Yes and no !

I like it , the atmosphere is dark and moody - even threatening - which I suspect is as you intended .

However I would have preferred to see a wee bittie more of the gun turret [ ?? ] as it seems to have got kind of lost in that wonderful sky

I agree with the above, seems a bit much is cut off from the bottom, could do with more of the chassis visible, and perhaps the wires cloned out, but that would take a while!

As above I would like to see more detail as well.

Same comment from me - although that background is a corker! and suits the subject as well

A really nice idea but as the others have said, slightly more at the bottom and slightly less at the top would have worked better for me. I'd only clone out the vertical cable.

Sorry i-Berg - not for me - love the subject and the background but not altogether with the cables and the ominous clods - sorry !

I like that picture.

(Long word alert)

To me it presents a dichotomy. In the foreground there is a weapon.

Do clouds in the background represent fire from the weapon or dawn after the end of use of the weapon?

Thanks all - I will have a shot (pun intended ) at a different crop, cloning out the vertical cable, and repost that.

Oggy - perhaps the sun setting on an old gun like this also?

Vertical wire on LHS cropped out, and more of the rear platform showing. There is no turret as such - just a raised, flat deck section between the bridge and the stern.

That looks better, I did try a quick lighten of the gun etc just a small amount to try to show some of the detail, it worked but, maybe that would destroy the atmosphere that this has.

I want to see the projectile as it leaves the barrel.

I think the second crop is better but unfortunately find the bright area now in the bottom right upsets the balance for me!
