Sigma Vs Sigma

I am considering upgrading my Sigma EX DG 24-70 to the Sigma 17-70 DC HSM. I am perfectly happy with the optical performance of the 24-70 as a walk about lens. My only gripes are it's size and weight for a lens of this range - plus I prefer the option of going a bit wider - and I like HSM lenses. Does anybody have any experience of both lenses or an opinion on whether this would be a worthwhile upgrade? Thanks Carl
