Pentax 60-250mm: Better range, very quiet focusing, weather sealing, quick shift, superb IQ but slow AF and I have never found a teleconverter I am happy to use with it.

Sigma 70-200mm : faster aperture, faster focus, very good IQ, takes the SIgma 1.4x TC very well and is pretty good with the 2x.

I am using the MKI APO EX Sigma, I believe the HSM versions are not quite as sharp and the converters do not work correctly with them.

I thought long and hard about the 60-250, the range sounds fantastic and the IQ looks great. However I was put off by stories of how slow it is to focus, and ended up getting the Sigma 70-200 Mk 1. In fact it was originally Mike-P's one I never did find out why you had two of them Mike!

Very good analysis by Mike. DA* optically better, EX more versatile and he did question why I sold my two EXs to fund the DA*, I somewhat regret selling the 70-200
