Sigma releases SD1 (46Mp)

The Sigma forum on the 'Big American Photography Website' has exploded with posters baying for the blood of the Sigma Executives. Everyone is discussing which brand they will jump ship to. At that price point I can understand their concern - for that money why not get a fully pro camera?

Interestingly some of the posts defending the price point are suggesting that the SD1 is priced to turn Sigma into a Leica-like brand, which echoes some of the comments on here about the price rises. To me that doesn't make sense because they don't have a range of Leica-quality lenses to match. Sigma do have a few great lenses but not enough. Who would want to buy a Leica body for £X'000s which you can only use with low-mid range lenses?

Unless this Foveon sensor is a real game-changer I can't see who will buy this camera.
You will only prise my 43Ltd from my cold, dead hands...

I have seen results from the Foveon sensor, and I did like them, the colours were really nice - I think I saw it on DP1x/ DP2s

However, the camera I saw was slow at writing, & it was quite expensive - about £400/500?

Both these were put offs, but I have to say, it was a quality, well built camera with great results.

Sadly, so are many others, & nice as they may be these will struggle against "established" competition...
I think we Pentaxians are a happy & lucky lot, to have good, pro-quality camera-bodies & glass at great prices- a happy "medium"!

Sigma seem completely out of touch with reality. Even if it was one grand I'd prefer the K-5, strictly due to lens availability and superior ergonomics.
