I think the lenses you have should be OK.
I would get the 18-55mm kit lens, you may find the 28-70mm you have and bit long at 28mm for a general purpose lens don't forget the 28mm becomes 42mm on a digital SLR.

Yes, always buy the 18-55mm kit lens as it is surprisingly good for a very low price.
Best regards, John

The 18-55 kit lens can be bought quite cheaply (compared to a K-x, anyway) and is a surprisingly good lens. It will complement your Sigma 28-70 nicely, with the Sigma's wider aperture being useful for low light or portrait shots.

The Lenses you have should be fine.
Have you considered the K-r? There are several points in its favor over the K-x.
As others have said kit lens is a great lens, but has no quick shift function. I quickly replaced my 18-55 DA-L with a 16-45 DA because of lack of QS (and one was going cheap) but this is just preference. You could also consider the 18-55 DA or WR version that does have Quick Shift if the lack of it will bother you.

I agree about the 18-55 kit lens I can't afford or justify a beter one and don't think I will ever need to as I have always been more than happy with it. I have had the normal one and the weather resistant and they both must surely be the best value lens pound for pound.

I've had my KR a few weeks now and it's a much better camera than the KX especially the focusing and metering. Live view through the higher res screen is much improved. Haven't tried out the HDR yet (has an interesting night version)
On kit lenses I bought mine here in the UK body only with the MK II 18 - 55 kit zoom (as used with the K20D I believe) which does have the focus shift and a metal mount. Very nice and not bad for close ups either
All depends on if you can get a much cheaper KX. If so its still abrilliant camera.

Have a look at the american sites(B&H cameras are good) prices are pretty good and if under $1000 you dont pay import duty, add 10% if over the $1000Thank you very much guys for clear advise, now I can proceed with a clear head. Bill I have got the KR at the top of my list but a bit exy here in oz

(say no more).
Have a MZ5 SLR and will buy a Pentax digital KX model (thinking body only) as have Sigma lens 28-70mm 2.8-4 uc zoom and sigma zoom 100-300mm 4.5-6.7dl
which came with the MZ5.
Will these lens be ok with the KX or could I lose defination etc.
Maybe I should buy the KX with a supplied pentax 55mm lens.
Many thanks for any advise you can give.
Regards
Paul.
