Sigma HSM lenses

Now that we have SDM Pentax lens support, does anyone know if Sigma are likely to release Pentax versions of their HSM lenses?

It would seem to make some sense. The 50-500mm is available in 3 different HSM mounts, and all seem to be priced about the same, so I would guess the costs involved would be minimal.

The 50-500mm is definately on my shopping list, but this issue is one that is holding me back.

Anyone know if this is going to happen?

I think that is the one. But - the HSM is not working for Pentax....To bad..

My sisters boyfriend got a 70-200 f2.8 HSM for Nikon D80. An absolutely fantastic lens - and very quiet too.

Cheers for the help guys, but I have found that a lot of retailers list it as HSM when it's not. As far as I can tell, Sigma have always said that this lens in perticular does not support HSM on Pentax Mounts.

Am really hoping that someone knows any inside info, there seems to be no concrete evidence out there.

Anyone know when the next major camera show in the UK is, so we can go and pester the staff!!

The Bigma does not support HSM, and I think that unless Pentax produce and sell (a lot) more SDM cameras it will not be made with HSM. Many retailers can't be bothered to change the name of the lens for Pentax fitting so lit appears to be an HSM lens.
As I have said before my understanding is that Sigma think the Pentax SDM market is too small to re-engineer the lenses. Maybe future Sigmas will support it but I doubt it.

I think one of the problems is that Sigma refuse to pay for the rights to use a particular mount/system and rely on back engineering. How viable this would be with the Pentax system remains to be seen and I doubt Sigma will go to the expense unless there are a lot more K10s sold.

Thought I would e-mail them, and ask them!

Here's the reply:-

Dear Danny,

Thank you for your E-mail.

Currently we have no dates for the release of any HSM lenses for the Pentax range.

Kind regards,

Ricky

Can we get good news from that? It does say no dates for release, not no plans for release! Does make me think (hopefully) that they are working on it!

I e-mailed them myself shortly after the K10D came out and got more or less the same reply. Still, can't hurt to remind them that some of us would like to buy these lenses occasionally.

The advent of the K100D Super will help in the fight, pretty soon most Pentax cameras will have SDM capability and at that point Sigma will be more likely to include HSM.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

Personally, I would be amazed if Pentax were to release any new camera without SDM capability.
