It's supposed to have a guide number of 14 meters at 100 ISO and f5.6.
Pixmania has it for £239 (+ Shipping £9.10)
The one on Jessops web site appears to be the Nikon version.

what are the manual controls for that flash like?
the best use for ringflash, imho is contrast control/fill.....
so huge gobs of power, aren't really needed....

Someone posted a mini-review with pictures of the flash (the Pentax version) over on pentaxforums.com - certainly look good, but I'm *still* holding out on the Pentax one which was meant to turn up last month

I think your statement is somewhat misleading, Beakynet.It's supposed to have a guide number of 14 meters at 100 ISO and f5.6.
According to specs, the guide number is 14 at ISO 100. This means that the max distance is (guide number/aperture) 14/5.6 = 2.5 metres at f/5.6.

if this is the case then perhaps I may give it miss ..doesnt seem too good for anything but fairly close macro .. or am I mistaken?
Pentax K7 and K5 and several black tubey things with magnifying glass in that twist around and move in and out - to be honest I am not sure exactly what I have. Will list the proper names one day..

Well, as far as I understand, a ring flash is meant for macro work, to provide shadowless images, and to allow illumination at close ranges.
To continue the calculation above, at f/22 the max. distance would be 14/22 = 0.64 metres. This is the sort of aperture you are looking at to provide enough DOF.
I would certainly not use a ring flash for portraits.

I would rather trust the say so of the members on this forum so I am wondering how much truth there is in this as I was also going to use it for some portrait shots.. 1mtr is a bit poor even for macro really (using sigma70-300 macro + extension tubes)
If I decide to get one... Another challenge is who can tell me the cheapest most reliable source for one of them .. Jessops have them for £244..
