Sigma 105mm EX Macro

Have been offered one of these lenses (with the aperture ring) at what may be a resonable price. It looks in mint condition but there is no lens hood with it. Because the front element is set so far inside does it really need a hood? I can't see any way to fit one anyway except in the filter thread? Then where would the "protection" uv etc filter fit? There is a switch for limit/full on the lens which I assume is something to do with auto focus but I mainly expect to use it for macro. What would be a reasonable offer for this, don't want to upset the guy

Firstly - a great macro lens - I have been using one for a couple of years.

The original hood for this lens does screw in to the filter thread - but if you want to use a filter - you just screw the filter to the camera and the hood to the filter.

A 58mm thread petal hood will cost you about £3 on ebay

As for a reasonable price for the lens - checking ebay - the highest price one has sold for recently was £289 and the lowest was £270. These were described as excellent condition

Hope that helps

Carl
No matter how many lenses I have owned - I have always needed just one more

Forgot to say - the switch you mention is to limit the focal distance

Great help thanks Carl. Lens now bought for £249 in a nice padded Sigma bag too, so quite pleased. Plus "I know where he lives if it goes wrong" Will look for a hood online now
