Sigma 105mm 2.8 EX Macro

I just picked up this lens used and in VGC, but there's one thing I'm unsure about. The focusing ring seems a bit stiff when it's in manual. It doesn't feel like it's binding it just feels stiff and not buttery smooth. Is this a normal characteristic with this lens? I'm using it on a K5 body.

Does it have the auto/manual focus ring on it? That needs to me in manual focus mode as well as the K5.

I hadn't changed the focus mode on the camera to manual, lens feels just fine now. Thanks for the info, this is my first DSLR and believe me I'm still learning. I went from a manual Pentax MX to the K5 and it's a little bit overwhelming.
