Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 confusion

A little confused with the Sigma 10-20mm and HSM. I've seen plenty of adverts (Ebay and camera shops) where the 10-20mm f4-5.6 for Pentax is described as having HSM. My understanding from the forum is that the Pentax f4-5.6 version isn't available with HSM, just the f3.5.

Are all the adverts wrong or is there a more recent HSM version and, if so, how can you tell?

This is a repeat of an earlier thread I think. I own the F4 - 5.6 and one has just been sold on here. The Pentax DOES NOT have the often pictured focus scale perspex window of the other makes HSM version. Shops show a generic photo of the HSM version and thus the confusion.

Although there is no HSM for Pentax owners this hardly matters as wide angle lenses have very short focus rotation. I love mine.

The newer constant F3.5 does have the High speed motor on the Pentax version.

The similar thread is called: 'What's the difference between these two Sigma lenses?'

Thanks Bill

I did look on other threads first and the one you refer to is more about the fact that one was for Nikon and the other Pentax plus the merits (or otherwise) of a certain retailer.

I'm not too fussed about HSM, just wanted to confirm the used price of the lens and wasn't sure if there was an older non-HSM model and a newer one with HSM as there are so many for sale 'with HSM; even though it seems that they aren't.

Someone on Ebay had one for sale earlier described as HSM. I sent him a message and he was adamant it had HSM and was therefore worth more.

Not just me who is confused, it seems.

Thanks again

Hi Chris,

IF it is variable aperture AND HSM then it won't be a K mount. I can understand your frustration.

OK to solve the problem read this link CLICKY LINK

It states that the lens is an HSM design, vailable on canon, nikon and sigma mounts.

By the way, I have this lens and like it a lot for landscape and building shots.

Cheers everyone.

I think I'm clear now - no HSM in Pentax mount with the f4-5.6!

I thought that was the case, but there are so many advertised on Ebay and in specialist camera shops with HSM that I thought I must be missing something.

I have the 4-5.6 (non HSM) and like it very much. I thought about the 3.5 HSM but didn't go do it in the end as it is bulkier and pricier, and most reviews seem to rate the 4-5.6 as the better performer optically.
