Sigma 10/20 on a istds!

Do you get auto focus with this combination?,,,just wondered if the istds could run the hsm?.....this may be a stupid question!,,,,Ken

There isn't an HSM version for Pentax. The Pentax version of the Sigma 10-20 works just like the usual sort of Pentax autofocus lens, working off the motor in the camera.

You'll get the right thing whatever the dealers call it. Even Sigma themselves are being a bit misleading/lazy by including "HSM" in the name at the top of their webpage.

Interestingly Pentax's own new top end lenses have motors in them. Presumably they'll work with the DS and lower models as well as the K10D.

Nope, they'll only work in HSM mode in the K10D or newer cameras. Otherwise they'll be driven by the cameras AF motor.

How much do HSMs weigh, by the way? I'm wondering how much heavier they make a lens than it would otherwise be.

Wait, one spot of confusion. No HSM lenses work on any Pentax camera at the moment. When Pentax release the 1.3 firmware for the K10D then HSM will be available. No third party HSM advertised lenses ship with HSM when ordered for a Pentax K-mount.

that was my impression as well, although since Sigma are the only 3rd party company with HSM technology and they always work by reverse engineering we'll have to wait for the Pentax lenses anyway. Can't reverse engineer the mount until they've seen one.
