Hi,

My name is Tim. I am a 30-something native Londoner, living in West Wales.

I have been increasingly 'getting into' photography over the last year. I have had absolutely zero formal training, and know just about enough to realise the vast chasm of knowledge I lack

I am interested in most forms of photography, although definately with an emphasis on landscape and nature type things over portraiture (or indeed anything involving people). I try to get out and take pictures as much as possible, although I get somewhat hampered by not driving, which often limits me to just my local area. It continually amazes me how you can always find new things to point the camera at though!

Last year I bought myself a K-x, after much umming and ahing over which system to buy into. Can't really say why, except obviously the range of good reviews. Perhaps something about my natural tendancy to align with the percieved 'different' option, and a genuine feel it was the right choice for me. I must say it was a decision I have not regretted for one second

Since then whenever I have had any money (or sometimes even when not), I have found myself investing in new stuff for the camera. I get the feeling this is a process that never ends! Ah well...

Welcome Tim! Damn fine name you've got there!

Jealous of your location, must be great for landscapes. Not like boring flat-as-a-pancake Essex. Looking forward to seeing some of your photos!

Thanks!

It's going to take some bottle for me to post my efforts up; I've seen the quality of some of the shots people are taking! I might put up a few of the ones I am reasonably happy with though. Maybe

Oh yes definitely do it. No fear!

You should see some of the rubbish I've posted up for critique in the past It's all good, no one will bite

In general stuff you put in the 'Your Photos' sub-forum will draw more constructive criticism and hopefully help you improve. Stuff you post in the 'Gallery' tends to be more just for sharing what you've taken (although some busybodies like yours truly will critique it anyway! :twisted

I live on the Canadian Prairies. We have farms bigger than many of your countries on your side of the pond. The saying around here is if you rob a bank in Winnipeg, there will be a cop on the roof of the police station in Regina, with binoculars, watching for you.

Welcome to the forum!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Thank you everyone for your welcoming comments.

I was going to put up a couple of my photos on this site for people to see, but in going through them I couldn't really narrow it down enough, so instead I dug up my old Flickr account and deleted all the old content to make way for just images from my K-x.

They are far from perfect, and some of them have some very obvious defects, but overall it shows what I've been getting up to since buying my camera last year.

Link to the photostream added to my sig if anyone is interested
