Shutter Improvements

Did the shutter material improvements on the later SV/H3V/S1A/H1A models take effect with the change to the "Orange R" series?

My understanding was that the re-design of the shutter to a much more robust unit was part of the Spotmatic development. There were a lot of design improvements at this point, making Spotmatics a viable camera-to-use even today.

The change in the colour was to indicate that it was safe to use the 1.4 lens. Around the same time, there were other changes. There was a major change to the door catch as well as the shutter. From the cameras I have had not all these were introduced at exactly the same time and there did appear to be a "changeover period" I rather suspect that the design work was done but Pentax were using up old stocks in the same way that some of the Asahiflex IIB's had IIA bodies with the slow speed cutout blanked off.

Maybe I should have been more speciific. I'm speaking of the curtain material. I understand that later model SVs was made of sturdier rubberized silk as opposed to the older rubber types.

The most important part in the change to the shutter was not so much to the curtains themselves put to the tapes that pull them across. Not only was the material changed along with the shutter material but the tapes were made stronger. This all occured about the same time as the change in the stop dowm mech as indicated by the coulour change of the "R". However, you cannot say with certainty that if a camera has the revised stop down that it will also have the revised shutter.

Are you not getting exactly the same answers to these same questions on the Spotmatic group?
