Have you seen the (supposedly) leaked pics of the new Samsung GX-1L? It looks like a rebadged DS/DL with a 18-55mm rebadged as Schneider Kreuznach D-Xenon...

Anyone more instructed can give us a background on the Schneider Kreuznach name? And the Xenon name?

Do you think this GX-L1 has new (Samsung?) electronics, like a new sensor and image processing?

Is it likely that Pentax may release this body in the Pentax name with the new electronics?

Is it possible that Schneider Kreuznach may start selling lenses on the Pentax-K mount?

The two most respected German optical firms are Zeiss and Schneider. Xenon is one of Schneider's lens names, just like Tessar, Sonnar, Planar, etc., are all famous Zeiss lens names.

I say names, but once I would have said designs. The Sonnar, for example, is a particular 5 element lens design of very high quality.

These days I think the names are just put there to make us think that it has some sort of significant heritage, and apart from the name I don't think it has.

Personally, I am not convinced by prestigious names (Leica, Zeiss, etc.) put onto lenses on inexpensive cameras and made in Japan or Korea or wherever "under licence".

Other famous Schneider lenses would be Xenar, Xenotar, Angulon, Super-Angulon, etc.

As above really.

Schneider and Xenon. the same names you would find on Rolleiflex Twin Lens Reflex camera. Read into that what you will.
