Shutter count in PhotoME

I might be doing what my OH calls a 'bloke look' (where I look for something, it's right in front of my face, but I still can't see it), but I can't for the life of me find the shutter count in the PhotoME EXIF details I can see if I open a K-3 DNG.

Can someone please tell me which tag/section it's in, cos I'm damned if I can see it...

'Manufacturer Notes', quite a way down - just after 'Shot Info Data'

I often have this problem.

Cheers, however, I don't seem to have that section at all. I can find it in one of my old K-5 DNGs, but not the K-3 one.

I've tried a K-3 DNG, and a K-3 JPG. Neither seems to show that section.

Oh! I would have expected all sections of PhotoMe to appear before loading a file into the program regardless of format.
Have you tried a K3 PEF file?

(I do not own a K3)

I have now... it still doesn't get the Manufacturer's Notes section.

I had exactly the same problem. Getting the shutter count using PhotoMe worked fine for my K-7 & K-5 but does not work for my K-3.

I also tried exiftool and that did not show the K-3 shutter count either.

I needed to check the K-3 shutter count so in the end I used a tool on the other Pentax forum here which worked fine although only works for jpegs from the camera.

Ok, thanks for confirming that I'm not just being an eejit, though I'd rather it had been finger trouble

I'd noticed that link - works for me too, but I'd rather have something local that I can run.

PhotoMe has not been updated for a number of years. So, if a manufacturer changes the format of their EXIF data or a header then it is possible that PhotoMe will not be able to interpret the data correctly.

Happily (thanks to Rawr on the US forum), it turns out that ExifToolGUI does show it.

To get it to work, I had to also:

- download the standard ExifTool,
- extract the contained exiftool(-k).exe into the folder containing the extracted GUI version
- rename exiftool(-k).exe to exiftool.exe

Then the GUI works a treat.
